Hometown Boys Together in Iraq
Little did my friend Sue and I know, as we watched our boys drive away on the school bus for their first day of Kindergarten, that 18 years later, we’d be watching CNN to make sure our boys were OK in Iraq.
Jeremy Kattner and Scott Herrick grew up a block away from each other, hung out and went to school together, and graduated from Oak Creek High School together, Class of 2004. My son Jeremy joined the Army 3 years ago. He is stationed at Ft. Riley, Kansas, and was sent to Iraq last October.
Sue’s son Scott joined the National Guard December of 2007, fulfilled his duties here, and was sent to Iraq this past May. Now the boys are 10 minutes from one another in Iraq.
How ironic, that of all the places for them to go that they would be together again.
I thought since it’s the Fourth of July, our Independence Day that this would be a cute story for the readers, and knowing that our hometown boys are keeping our country safe.
God Bless our boys and all the soldiers, wherever they may be, for keeping our country safe and for giving up their lives here to keep all of us safe.
So I hope all you readers of my story say a prayer every night for our Hometown Boys, and all of our soldiers, to keep them safe and come home soon!
Happy 4th of July. Thank you!
