Oak Creek FBLA
55th Annual State Leadership Conference
April 2-3, 2009
The 55th Wisconsin Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) State Leadership Conference hosted in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, on April 2 and 3, 2009. The State Leadership Conference brought outstanding young adults together for an unforgettable experience of FLBA enthusiasm. This year, over 2,300 students, advisors, and guests participated in this conference.
FBLA members from all areas of the state gathered in Milwaukee at the Midwest Center to attend workshops and three delegate assemblies, elect their new State Executive Board members, and compete in competitive events such as Accounting, Desktop Publishing, Job Interview/Portfolio, Banking and Financial Systems, E-Business, Cyber Security, Database Applications, Marketing, Speaking Events, and Entrepreneurship at the state level. In most competitive events, the first and second place winners will be advancing to the FBLA National Leadership Conference that will be hosted in Anaheim, California from June 24 – 29, 2009.
The keynote speaker this year was Todd Gehrmann. He is a founding partner of FOCUS Training. He has been a professional leadership trainer and speaker for 16 years. His message “Achieving Excellence Through Understanding and Action,” was both educational and motivational. He is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin.
Our local Chapter, Oak Creek High School sent seven members to represent our school. They toured Milwaukee area businesses including Harley Davidson, Manpower, Inc., Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance, Aurora St. Luke’s Medical Center, and the Wisconsin Human Society. FBLA members raised money for the Wisconsin FBLA-PBL Foundation by playing numerous competitive round of Monopoly. They also were entertained with a concert that featured the bands Elevation and QuiteDrive.
One local member that placed at state is Julia Wozniak, Senior Oak Creek High School. She will represent Oak Creek in the competitive event “Job Interview” at the FBLA National Leadership Conference in Anaheim, California in June. Congratulation Julia for placing 2nd in this event! Alex Thomas (Marketing), Praveen Ghosh (Accounting II), Melinda Gram, Joohee Son, and Joyce Lie (Global Business) placed in the top eight in their events. Congrats goes out to each student!
