Oak Creek girls volleyball
The Knights' 14-year state drought continued with a three-game loss to top-seeded Divine Savior Holy Angels at Milwaukee Riverside on Saturday, but not before Oak Creek knocked defending state runner-up Pius XI from the tournament two days earlier.
The Knights picked up a win, 25-20, 23-25, 28-26, 20-25, 15-12, over the host Popes behind Lyndsay Zabkowicz's 22 digs and 32 kills and Mariah Bukiewiez's 54 assists.
The teams fought to a 12-12 tie late in the fifth game, but two Pius errors later and a kill by Oak Creek's Alyssa Schneider finished off the Popes.
Oak Creek had five seniors, including Zabkowicz, a middle hitter who will play for the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay next year and setter Veronica Chandre, who is headed for Georgia University. Chandre was sidelined with an injury the last two weeks.
