Greendale cross country
The Panthers' underclass combo of Hayley Serketich and Chelsey Heiden was impressive at the Muskego Invite on Saturday.
Serketich, a sophomore, ran seventh in 15 minutes, 33 seconds. Heiden, a freshman, was 11th in 15:48 as the Panthers finished seventh of 12 teams.
Kyle Goodman was the Greendale boys top runner; the senior was 20th in 17:12.
Whitnall swimming
Shorewood claimed six events to Whitnall's two and, as a result, edged the Falcons at the Woodland Conference Relays, 310-272, Sept. 23, at Cudahy.
Whitnall won the 300-yard breaststroke and diving, and finished second in three races. The winning breaststrokers were Laura Sullivan, Sara Arteaga, Rebecca Powers and Kate Schubert in 3 minutes, 38.07 seconds.
Emma Smith, Sullivan, Arteaga and Schubert in the 400 individual medley (4:30.39); Gina Villiani, Rebecca Wiggington, Samantha Wesel and Smith in the 800 free (9:03.38); and Schubert, Arteaga, Wesel and Lauren Zurowski in the 400 medley (4:21.62) finished second.
Franklin cross country
Lindsay Fons' second-best run in school history sparked the Sabers to a fourth-place finish at the Muskego Invite on Saturday. Fons finished in 15 minutes, 9 seconds, good for fourth. Her teammate, Jenny Eickhorst, ran 18th in 16:03 and Hannah Timm was 22nd in 16:21.
Franklin's Phillip Guilbault, Tyler Jensen and Derek McElroy ran together most of the race and finished 18th, 19th and 21st, respectively. Guilbault and Jensen finished in 17:04 and McElroy in 17:17. Guilbault and Jensen moved into the school's top-50 list and now rank 42nd and 43rd.
Oak Creek soccer
Four different Knights scored as Oak Creek beat visiting Racine Horlick, 4-1, on Sept. 22. Horlick went ahead in the 15th minute, but the Knights' Nick Tripoli erased that lead with a goal in the 30th minute and then assisted Miguel Gutierrez one minute later as Oak Creek to a 2-1 halftime lead.
Keenan Lampe and Alex Mrotek scored second-half goals for the Knights, who improved to 10-1-1 overall and 3-0-1 in the Southeast Conference.
Whitnall soccer
Nikolai Miskov's pair of first-half goals helped the Falcons rebound from a tough loss by beating the St. Thomas More Cavaliers at Croatian Field on Sept. 23.
Miskov scored twice on assists by Paul Craig before intermission, and after St. Thomas More trimmed the lead in half on Luis Esquivel's goal in the 43rd minute, Whitnall's defense held on for the win.
The victory came just two days after the Falcons lost, 5-0, at home against New Berlin Eisenhower.
Franklin swimming
Franklin won seven of 12 events to beat rival Oak Creek at home in a Southeast Conference dual Sept. 22.
Franklin's Megan Newsom, Sarah Talbot, Emily Nienhaus and Jessica Zeman led off the meet with a win in the 200-yard medley relay. Zeman, Nienhaus, Samantha Schermeister and Courtney Owen finished the dual with a victory in the 400 free relay.
In between, Nienhaus won the 200 individual medley and the 100 backstroke, Zeman was first in the 100 free, Schermeister claimed the 400 free and Jenna Renner was first in diving.
No final score was reported.
Franklin tennis
With a pair of wins at the Oconomowoc Invite on Saturday, the Franklin Sabers tied the school record for most wins in a season set last fall.
The Sabers beat the host school, 5-2, and South Milwaukee, 6-1, to finish the regular season at 12-6.
The third doubles team of Shannon Murawski and Sanjana Segu won twice to improve to 11-4. Singles players Natsumi Shiotani and Yuka Shiotani were also among the two-time winners for the Sabers.
Franklin girls volleyball
The Sabers were pushed to the limit but pulled out a five-game win over visiting Oak Creek on Sept. 22.
Franklin came from behind to win, 25-21, 19-25, 21-25, 25-22, 16-14.
Oak Creek's Veronica Chandre tallied a match-high 48 assists, three more than Franklin's Nikki Dailey, who also had a match-high five blocks.
Oak Creek's Lyndsay Zavkowicz had 31 kills and 15 digs, and Franklin's Rachel Ambroch and 21 kills.
Greendale swimming
The Panthers finished in the top five of just one event and finished 11th of 12 teams at the Woodland Conference Relays at Cudahy on Sept. 23.
Greendale's 200-yard freestyle relay of Anna Redovich, Allie Furru, Tegan Potterton and Erin Connell swam fourth in 1:56.59 to lead the Panthers.
Oak Creek girls volleyball
The Knights rebounded from a five-game loss to Franklin on Sept. 22, to sweep visiting Whitnall two days later.
Veronica Chandre had 22 assists and four aces as the Knights won, 25-6, 25-23, 25-19.
The Knights' Lindsay Zavkowicz posted 11 kills and 11 digs for the Knights, who also went 2-1 in pool play at the West Bend Sprawl on Friday and Saturday.
