Pork eaters will be in hog heaven this weekend. There is not one, but two pig roasts going on for the folks in the southern suburbs. Oak Creek will be having a pig roast from 12 to 4 p.m. on Sunday and Franklin will be hosting its Harvest Festival, featuring a pig roast, at 1 p.m. The Oak Creek pig roast will be held at Henry Miller park, 315 east grove one drive. The Harvest Festival will take place at Polonia Park, 10200 W. Loomis Road.
The events are held for residents to enjoy and do not make the city money. Residents of Oak Creek can purchase tickets either at the gate or go City Hall. Franklin residents can get their tickets at the gate. Both event's tickets will cost $5, but there is an option for members attending the Oak Creek pig roast to pay $1 for children. The Franklin ticket is per car, while the Oak Creek ticket is per person. The $1 Oak Creek ticket will get attendees a hot dog, beans, chips, fruit snacks and ice cream. The $5 ticket will get attendees for both events either a chicken or pig meal.
Liverpool '64, a Beatles tribute band, will be playing at the Oak Creek festival. They are slated to play the full four hours of the event. The Polanie band is a polish band. Polish food will also be available at the Franklin festival.
The Oak Creek pig roast is being sponsored by numerous groups, separated into a three-tiered system. The first tier is platinum and is comprised of sponsors are those that gave over $1,000 and include WE Energies and Caterpillar. The second tier is the gold tier and is comprised of those who gave between $500 and $1,000 and includes Waterstone Bank, Woodmans Market and others. There will also be an auto show at the Oak Creek pig roast.
Sharon Armstrong, the co-chair of the pig roast, said "The car show, we have given fliers out wherever there are shows in Oak Creek. We don't know how many people are brining cars. Usually there are 10 plus. This year, we're going to give a plaque to best in show which the public can vote."
The Festival in Franklin will also have an outdoor mass at 1 p.m.
Tina Koenig, co-chair of the pig roast, said she was concerned about attendance due to the Packer game at 3:15, adding "We know that there is going to be a game, but we will have radios available for anybody who wants to listen to the game. The event ends at 4 p.m. so they won't miss too much."
