Oak Creek — The city's website has been remodeled.
The remodeling is one of the final major efforts by Milwaukee-based marketing firm Savage Solutions to re-brand the city. Since the firm was hired for $111,000 by the city in mid-October, it has created a new logo and written radio advertisements for the Oak Creek as well as shot promotional videos for businesses citywide.
While the website was the last major project for the firm, work is being completed on smaller side projects and Oak Creek Mayor Stephen Scaffidi said he'll be asking the Common Council for input about future plans for the group.
Marketing a brand
The new website, launched Dec. 6, has a cleaner appearance with more visual appearance. There are more photos and an area for promotional items, such as a video shot Savage Solutions created about Oak Creek-based Black Bear Bottling Group.
Cory Savage, president of the firm, said the website was designed with three crowds in mind. The first would be residents looking for government services like a flu shot, the second is people looking to contact government officials and the third is outsiders doing research on Oak Creek.
Much of the re-brand caters to that third group, which Savage said contains businesses looking to move into Oak Creek.
"It's a perfect time to build a brand about what Oak Creek is and what they're going to be, and make the city look and feel a little more competitive in the area," Savage added.
Scaffidi said the new brand would help the city market itself to new businesses that could potentially be attracted by Drexel Town Square, the Oakview Business Park and lakefront redevelopment projects.
Nuts and bolts
Besides the facelift, the website is designed for mobile devices. The previous website, although only two years old, was not compatible with smartphones or tablets.
The new site will have a blog feature, but Savage noted the blog is more of a one-way communication from the city to residents. The mayor's message, which was on the older site, will be on the blog as well as local event listings and tips from city departments.
Scaffidi said of the new website and re-brand, "We're trying to be a 21st century city, and I think we're moving in the right direction."
