My fellow oak creek citizens: This year’s aldermatic and mayoral election are the most important since inception of our city in 1955. Two new aldermen for sure, 1 appointee running for 1st term, 2 sitting 1 term aldermen on city council. Three persons running for mayor, the incumbent mayor & 2 aldermen who gave up their position as alderman to pursue mayor position!
A mayoral forum will be held at the community center on Feb. 11 from 6:30 to 9: p.m.
An all-aldermatic alderman forum will be held at the center on Feb 5th. Call 768-5840 for time! Please let’s all vote!Lets be the most informed we can be by attending the mayoral & alderman forums!
*****What about this guy in washington who owed over $40,000 in taxes. He found out he was in line for a high government position.Guess what? He paid the money - 4 years past due - while earning over a million dollars! You and I would have been in court, and jail bars would be looking us in the face!
*****As of now Guantanamo Bay will be closed in one year? “Take this to the bank!” Gitmo will not be closed! They house the worst of the worst - nobody wants these detainees.
*****The MATC taxes are the highest percent of increase in our Oak Creek tax bill! These board members are appointed; they are not accountable to any one. They are completely out of control, as the 8+% increase indicates!
*****The oak creek citizens have spoken. There will be a farmers market at the community center this summer. The parking lot is the place. You can call the center for details or look for dates and times, 768-5840.
*****OK, I have decided to come clean on one of my best kept secrets! I am sure these sargeants are all retired!
This took place at Fort Leonard wood basic training, Feb. 1960, in the mess hall at lunch time. Spaghetti was the bill of fare - or tomato sauce with a few noodles would be more like it! I was served towards the end of the line.I had my back to serving area. A loud command exploded from a sarge: No one leaves unless their tray is completely empty!I knew what had happened, as I could not eat any more sauce! The recruits that were done eating were dumping too much food. There i sat with 4 other guys who also could not finish the sauce and a few noodles! We all know that if you are full to a certain point there is no way to get any more food down. What do i do?I nibbled on a few noodles, but that would not work!! Having my back to the sargeants, I decided I was going to try something “very risky.”I had two milk containers on my tray. I told the guys what I was going to try. Not to look suspicious, I slowly opened the milk containers - the guys were my lookouts – and I slowly filled the two milk cartons w/spaghetti ( sauce)! Closed the cartons, trying to make them look like they were not opened completely!
Now the risky part - especially in boot camp. Am I going to get past the sargeants? Have they had this pulled on them before? Would I get caught? My heart beating to the max, here i go! I walk firmly to front - not looking up - right past the eyes of the sargeants, dumped the tray and kept on walking!
I don’t know what the other 3 recruits ever did with their dilemma.
